Did you hear the winning song from Sanremo 2026? I've included the video and transcript at the bottom of this blog.
The Sanremo Music Festival, officially the Festival della canzone italiana, is the most popular Italian song contest and awards ceremony. It is held annually in the city of Sanremo in the Liguria and organised and broadcast by the Italian tv station RAI. Incredibly, it is the longest-running annual TV music competition in the world on a national level and it is also the basis and inspiration for the annual Eurovision song contest. Unlike other awards in Italy, the Sanremo Music Festival is a competition for new songs.
With one student over a number of weeks, we watched clips in the run up to the San Remo festival 2026. This included seeing some of the pop-up concerts and flash-mobs in various cities around Italy, we read some background about the festival, as well as hearing artists talking about the pieces they were bringing to the festival. Lastly, we enjoyed the winning song, there's a YouTube link below for you to enjoy it too! It really was much more catchy as tunes go than some of the other competitors.
